NLM Piano Trio

Stacy Garrop
Chicago, IL

Violinist Rabia Brooke, Nova Linea Musica's founding Artist-in-Residence, and the NLM Piano Trio present an evening centered on a single world premiere: a program built around memory, place, and the act of writing for a particular ensemble in a particular moment.

At the heart of the evening is the world premiere of a Nova Linea Musica commission by Stacy Garrop, the Nova Linea Musica Composer-in-Residence, written during her recent residency in the Rocky Mountains. Garrop is one of the most performed living American composers, with a catalog that draws on myth, history, and the natural world. The new piano trio extends a body of work she has written for Nova Linea Musica across multiple seasons, deepening the long collaborative relationship between the composer and the organization she helped inspire. Garrop will be in attendance to celebrate the premiere and lead a post-concert Q&A and catered reception.

Tonight's performers are Rabia Brooke, who performs on the 1731 Lady Jeanne violin by Antonio Stradivarius on generous loan, and the NLM Piano Trio. Brooke has built her career around the commissioning and championing of new music, and the founding of Nova Linea Musica was inspired in part by her work as a creative collaborator with composers of her generation.

Tonight's program closes a season built on world premieres with one more: a piano trio written for an artist and an organization built on the same idea, that the music being made now is the music most worth gathering for.
